DIY custom rhinestone jewelry

7.03.2012

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen this picture last week.

I found the rhinestone bracelet at my local antique shop. And I have seen a few cool DIYs out there that use nail polish to turn a regular rhinestone piece into a really cool custom piece. It seemed like a pretty straightforward project, so I gave it a go.

What you will need:
1.       Rhinestone jewelry piece- I suggest it be cheap, no family heirlooms/super special pieces allowed. I got my bracelet for $5....

2.       Nail polish of your choice, including a top coat.

3.       That’s it!

All you do is paint the individual stones…. Seriously, that’s it! All the other tutorials I read said not to worry about perfection, so I really didn’t either. And it ended up turning out great! I did 2 coats of color and then a top coat, making sure to let each coat dry before adding the next.

Up close and personal:

I kinda love it! Of course if you don’t have the time/patience to DIY, you can just hop on over to Etsy and purchase a really cool, pre-made custom piece. Here. Here. Or here.

What do you think? Would you give this DIY a try?
