5 Things I Love: Adorn Yourself Accordingly

Today, I am so excited to have my BFF and soul sista Val guest post here on MSC. I already introduced you to her blog, Adorn Yourself Accordingly, but it bears repeating that you MUST follow along. Since I first introduced her, Val has continued to share the chicest, most adorable outfits as well as fab style advice. I'm telling you, the girl does NOT disappoint! So today, she is sharing 5 things in her home/closet that make her smile :)

Hello, MSC readers! I am so excited and honored to guest post on MSC. Not only do I

love this blog, but I also love the lady behind it. Emily is one of my dearest and most

stylish girlfriends. She has been my most trusted guide and cheerleader through

the beginning stages of my blog, Adorn Yourself Accordingly, and is probably the

most fun girl you could ever hope to hangout with! Thank you so much for this

opportunity, Em! So, without further adieu, here are my 5 Favorite Things.

1. My Little Fashion Library

These not only look fabulous stacked around the house, but also serve as sartorial

inspiration and offer up tons of fun fashion trivia. If I ever need some style

inspiration, I open one up and start flipping through. I daydream that one day I will

have a little daughter that will love to lie on the floor and flip through them with me.

2. A Lollipop Red Manicure

I always feel like myself when I have a bright red nail. My style is all about mixing

patterns with patterns and bright colors with even brighter colors, so that extra pop

of color is the perfect accent to most of my looks. It’s just that extra little something

on the end of my fingertips. My favorite is Essie Lollipop. It works year round from

the dead of winter to the 4th of July!

 3. Chanel Ballet Flats

I’m not usually one to splurge on lots of luxe shoes, so my Chanel flat collection is a

little out of character for me. I got my first pair of them as a gift a few Christmases

ago and we have been sole sisters ever since. For me, they are the most classic

a shoe can get and turn up the luxury factor when wearing a $25 vintage dress.

I always feel special when I wear them…. and isn’t feeling special what getting

dressed is all about?!

 4. Jack Black Lip Balm

I became addicted to these when I was in college. Not only do they have the best

flavors {mint + shea butter, lavender + vanilla, grapefruit + ginger… yum!} but they

have an SPF 25 and are super glossy. I keep one in my handbag, on my nightstand, in

the living room and in my makeup case. Obsessed much?!

5. My Vintage Lion Head Earrings

I found these little treasures a couple of years ago in a vintage shop. They are the

perfect combination of sparkle and gilt and always amp up anything from a t-shirt

and blazer to a ball gown. I instantly feel glamorous every time I clip them to my

earlobes.

5 Things I Love: Holtwood Hipster

Hi there Main Street Chic readers! My name is Erin and I write a little daily blog called Holtwood Hipster. I’m so happy that Emily has asked me to stop in today and share 5 things I’m really loving right now with you all.  

I’m going to level with you. It’s taken lots of work to get into our own home and every single day, I’m so very grateful that we are finally here. I really do wake up and get a little giddy as I sip on my morning cup of coffee, because all of the painting and decorating over the past year, has lead to some very happy “moments” about our house. Here are a five that make me smile each day. 

ONE // OUR OWN SWIMMING POOL

This sea of blue is one of the first things I look at each morning. We floated in it all summer and hosted some crazy fun pool parties. It truly is a gathering spot for all of our friends and family, which probably makes this my favorite aspect of our home. Now I’m looking forward to the new colors our surrounding Maple trees will cast in its waters throughout the coming season. 

TWO // CACTUS + SUCCULENTS

I’m always working in the yard and much of the last year has been spent landscaping our home’s exterior-front and back. We’ve worked a lot of succulents into the mix. I was inspired by a floral design I saw in a retail space and thought to create this trio as an indoor focal point. This perennial arrangement, now sits front and center on our kitchen countertop.  

THREE //VINTAGE ARTWORK 

I spotted this vintage painting leaning up against a fence at my local flea. I bought it instantly because of its vibrant color palette. It hangs in our home's entry way and serves as a daily reminder of a day I spent browsing antiques with my mom.  

FOUR //WHITE DISHWARE

I dreamed long and hard for enough cabinet space to finally store all of our dishware. We use all of these single serving pieces when cooking and entertaining for friends (which is quite often). When I throw open these doors, all I see is another party in the making. 

FIVE // OUR COLORFUL FRONT DOOR

With various shades of grey serving as our neutral backdrop both inside and out, we added a little more whimsy to our ornate mid-century front door by painting it Glidden’s Almost Aqua. I imagine our conservative neighbors probably think we’re a little nuts, but I pull into the driveway and smile every time I see it.

My SUPER chic BFF recently started a blog. I've always thought Valerie (or Val, as I call her) would make the BEST style blogger simply because she has the BEST style. She is lady like, chic and classic. Always on trend without being too trendy and the perfect mix of sass in each outfit. So you can imagine my excitement when she told me she was going to delve into the blogosphere... I have a feeling her blog will lead to many "Inspired to Incorporated" posts from me!

5 Things I Love: Spraypaint and Chardonnay

The first time I saw the title of Katie's blog, I knew I would love it. Well actually, the first thing I thought was "Dang! Why didn't I think of that as a blog name?!" Spray paint and Chardonnay... I definitely agree that those two things can fix just about anything :) If you haven't seen Katie's blog before, I insist you go now! It's full of fun interiors... and just plain fun! A while back she gave a sneak peak of her kitchen reno and I am dying to see the rest!

But, without further ado, here are the 5 things in Katie's home/closet that just make her smile: 



one -- Karen Walker's Number One sunglasses. Years ago, I bought my first pair of "nice" sunglasses as a birthday present to myself.  It was only four days later that those nice sunglasses took a plunge in Lake Austin. Wha-whaaa.  After that fateful day, I swore I would solely stick to $20 (or less) sunnies. However, I feel as though I'm grown up enough--and responsible enough (I hope!)--to keep these sunglasses safe! They won't be making any trips to the lake this summer, that's for sure! 

two -- pink peonies, my all time favorite flower! Few things make me happier than a bouquet of fresh cut peonies in a vintage vessel. Ahhh...I can smell them now...

three -- a chambray shirt. I snagged one a few years ago from Banana Republic, not knowing that it was going to be my most favorite shirt of all time, ever. I swear, I wear this about once a week (I wash it, I promise).  It goes with everything from cut off shorts to a sequined skirt--it's the little black dress of button downs!

four -- my bar cart! I had been on the hunt for a gold bar cart for years, and after a trip  to Round Top this spring, I finally found one! I refused to pay the hundreds and thousands of dollars they're going for on eBay and other sites, so luckily this one was a steal at only $75! It just needed a fresh coat of gold spray paint (but what doesn't?!), and it was good to go! 

five -- BOTA BOX Pinot Grigio!  Most people laugh at me when I tell them I'm a connoisseur of boxed wine, but I'm not talking about Franzia (for crying out loud).  One box is equivalent to four bottles, and it tastes just as delicious as a $20 bottle--I promise.  Plus, when you're home alone on a week night and want a glass of wine after work, you don't have to feel bad about yourself for opening a bottle of wine.  Just pour some BOTA BOX from the spicket and you're set!  All of my friends are now hooked.  I think perhaps BOTA BOX should sponsor Spray Paint & Chardonnay (hmmm...).
