Dining Room Progress

Just like our house in Houston, the Chouse has three levels. The first thing you see when you walk up the stairs in the Chouse is the dining room. I have made a certain amount of progress on it, so I thought I would share. When I say progress, that pretty much just means there are no longer boxes in it.

We added the open shelving for our china and crystal. I got the shelves at Ikea before we left Houston because St. Louis doesn't have an Ikea (boo!).

The best part of this room is obviously the windows. But, I am also very proud of the dining room table that we (read: Cody) re-stained (pic below). It belonged to his parents and they gave it to us when we got married.

Also, I decided not to go with the customized subway scroll that I posted about before. Even though I love them, I just feel like subway scrolls are going to be overdone very soon. I am a weirdo about having the same things as other people. And I really feel like the art for this space needed to be colorful. Anyway, I painted this art a few weeks back. Originally I was going to hang it over the couch but I just felt it went better in here.

Come visit me and I will cook you dinner (that's big, people!) and we can sit in this lovely room.

H&M. And malachite. And online shopping.

Just wanted to share an H&M find with you all... this lovely faux malachite ring (added plus, the orange factor. Go Pokes!!). I have lived in STL for over a month now and I just went to H&M yesterday. AND it wasn't even my idea to go. I think that shows some pretty awesome restraint on my part. 

The last time I got to go to an H&M is when I was in NYC quite a while ago.. we're talking 10 years people. So when I found out there was one in STL, I was thrilled, naturally. One thing about H&M (and Zara) is the no online shopping option. Which stinks. But I was on Refinery29 the other day and I saw this article.

Could be dangerous...

Real Housewives Real Estate- Kelly Bensimon

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! I sure did and have the sun burn to prove it :)

During this edition of the Real Housewives Real Estate, we are looking at NYC Housewife Kelly Bensimon. I have to say, Kelly's SoHo home is one of my favorites! We don't see it much on the show, but what I have seen encouraged me to look around online. I was so pleased at what I found! Her house is so creative and playful. She definitely created a cool place for herself and her children to feel comfortable in. And, I'm going to say it... it's kinda crazy! Just like Kelly!

Kelly created the large pillows by sewing together large Hermes scarves. And she got the couch from Restoration Hardware outlet and re upholstered it with fabric from Zarin fabrics.

The lamps cost $3-$5 and were found at a flea market. Gotta love a fellow bargain shopper :)

The shark is weird but I kind of love it.

I just really like her home. It's just so much more interesting when people's homes are different than everyone elses. Good job, Kelly! I guess being crazy is a good think when it comes to interior decorating :)

If you woke up in America today, remember how blessed you are. As often as I can, I thank God for putting me in a place where I have true freedom. I have the freedom to follow my dreams, to speak openly about what I believe, to live the life I choose and to strive to make my country even better tomorrow than it is today.

Let's all remember this weekend not only to be grateful for fireworks, lake time, cookouts and family, but also grateful that we have been blessed to live in a country that is so amazing. God Bless America!
