orange chair make-over - decision time

12.19.2012

I posted a while back about some orange barrel back chairs I found on CL. And I originally said I didn't want to change them.

But I decided I do. BC the Hubs said  the fabric reminds him of a 70's dorm room.... And he's right! And that's just not chic. SO, after pondering many options of how to re-do them, I've decided to do something somewhat neutral with a slight pop. What is that you might ask? Contrast piping, friends.

I love all the color combos, but I will be going with the below. Don't want it to be too loud, so I'll be using the red for the piping.

And I recently realized how predictable I am. I pondered this exact look when re-doing the Louis chairs.

So, yes, I am taking on another upholstery project. Wish. Me. Luck.

Also, this is probably going to be my last post of 2012. We are blessed to get to take a pretty extensive holiday vacation with our family, so I will be heading out to Santa Fe on Friday. I hope you all have a safe and restful holiday season! I'll see ya next year :)

review: eShakti

12.10.2012

I recently got a really fab jacket to review from eShakti. They are an online retailer with clothes that you can have custom-made to fit how you want--- and it's not expensive! Find a piece you like, send them your measurements and they will make it to fit you perfectly!

Case in point, the aforementioned jacket. Really love the jacket, and really love the fit!

Definitely check out eShakti next time you are in the online shopping mood :)

guest br nightstands pt. 2

12.06.2012

Last weekend, we (read: the Hubs while I watched) added some brass pulls to our guest bedroom nightstands.

Used these. Not a huge project, but definitely makes a big impact!

Sorry- the before is an iphone pic, hence the difference in color.

Yes, the nightstands don't match. But- the important things (to me) do- height and wood color.

What do you think?

insta-outfits

12.04.2012

In a file I call "things my husband doesn't understand" is the act of instagram-ing daily outfits (#ootd). I love doing this! Mostly bc I think fashion is fun, I love getting dressed in the morning and I am a 'share-er'. Also, I don't have that many friends in STL (don't feel bad for me, haven't really tried) so the 'you look so cute!"s I would (hopefully) get if I saw my friends in real life just happens in an e-universe. Sharing is caring. And fun!

Some things I've gathered from the above:
#1- love red in my outfits and in my decor. not surprising.
#2- the pictures that have Daisy in them are the best. also not surprising.
#3- I wish more of you would share your daily outfits! I'll be your biggest fan, promise :)

5 Things I Love: Adorn Yourself Accordingly

11.28.2012

Today, I am so excited to have my BFF and soul sista Val guest post here on MSC. I already introduced you to her blog, Adorn Yourself Accordingly, but it bears repeating that you MUST follow along. Since I first introduced her, Val has continued to share the chicest, most adorable outfits as well as fab style advice. I'm telling you, the girl does NOT disappoint! So today, she is sharing 5 things in her home/closet that make her smile :)

Hello, MSC readers! I am so excited and honored to guest post on MSC. Not only do I
love this blog, but I also love the lady behind it. Emily is one of my dearest and most
stylish girlfriends. She has been my most trusted guide and cheerleader through
the beginning stages of my blog, Adorn Yourself Accordingly, and is probably the
most fun girl you could ever hope to hangout with! Thank you so much for this
opportunity, Em! So, without further adieu, here are my 5 Favorite Things.

1. My Little Fashion Library
These not only look fabulous stacked around the house, but also serve as sartorial
inspiration and offer up tons of fun fashion trivia. If I ever need some style
inspiration, I open one up and start flipping through. I daydream that one day I will
have a little daughter that will love to lie on the floor and flip through them with me.

2. A Lollipop Red Manicure
I always feel like myself when I have a bright red nail. My style is all about mixing
patterns with patterns and bright colors with even brighter colors, so that extra pop
of color is the perfect accent to most of my looks. It’s just that extra little something
on the end of my fingertips. My favorite is Essie Lollipop. It works year round from
the dead of winter to the 4th of July!

 3. Chanel Ballet Flats
I’m not usually one to splurge on lots of luxe shoes, so my Chanel flat collection is a
little out of character for me. I got my first pair of them as a gift a few Christmases
ago and we have been sole sisters ever since. For me, they are the most classic
a shoe can get and turn up the luxury factor when wearing a $25 vintage dress.
I always feel special when I wear them…. and isn’t feeling special what getting
dressed is all about?!

 4. Jack Black Lip Balm
I became addicted to these when I was in college. Not only do they have the best
flavors {mint + shea butter, lavender + vanilla, grapefruit + ginger… yum!} but they
have an SPF 25 and are super glossy. I keep one in my handbag, on my nightstand, in
the living room and in my makeup case. Obsessed much?!

5. My Vintage Lion Head Earrings
I found these little treasures a couple of years ago in a vintage shop. They are the
perfect combination of sparkle and gilt and always amp up anything from a t-shirt
and blazer to a ball gown. I instantly feel glamorous every time I clip them to my
earlobes.

Thanks so much for reading!! Love, Valerie

Head on over to AYA to see Val in action. Thanks so much for sharing, love!!

guest br nightstands

11.26.2012

Good morning! Trying to get back into the swing of things after a wonderful holiday! I hope yours was great as well.

Wanted to report that CraigsList has come through for me yet again. I recently scored some Danish modern nightstands for our guest bedroom. And, I got them for alot less than the price you usually see mid-century furniture go for. Looooove CL!

We've had two mis-matched tables serving as nightstands for about 3 years, so it was about time for something new. They are in great condition and I actually like the color of the wood alot, just need to clean them up a bit.

So I wasn't planning on doing anything to them. That was until I saw this pic:

Now, I'm not going to paint them red. Because, while I do love red, even I have my limits. But I was thinking of adding some great hardware just to dress them up a bit.

Could be cute, right? Will report back with updates. Have a great Monday!

if you haven't already

11.20.2012

You should head on over and 'like' Amie's Facebook page. If, for no other reason, to see prettiness like this...

That's pretty much it for today. This evening, I am heading to Dallas to celebrate Thanksgiving with the Hubs' family. I am SO excited to kick off the holiday season. Much love to you all! I hope you have a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving :)

OMM: gourd lamps

11.05.2012

Ever since I posted my plans for my future master bedroom, I've had gourd lamps on my mind. They are a beautiful shape, they come in fabulous colors... what's not to love really?

Every room I see one (or two!) in, I feel like they definitely give the space a little extra something.

I love the white ones we have in our guest bedroom. Get yours here, here, here or here. These (like any lamps) can be spendy. And I know I say it ALL THE TIME, but be sure to look on CraigsList or at the thrift store for these. You just really never know what might turn up!

show house space

11.01.2012

This year, Amie was asked to participate in the Ladue News Show House. Show Houses can be a great way for designers to showcase their work to the public, and this particular Show House raised money for 4 local charities- a win, win really :)

I wanted to share some pictures of the space Amie contributed- the second floor landing area. While to some this area would just be a 'walk through' space, Amie made a HUGE impact and created a beautiful space that no one would want to miss.

 photography by Michael Jacob.

The art is by Trova and came from Ivy Selkirks. Wall color is Light Blue by Farrow and Ball. Pillow fabric is Manuel Canovas Boheme. Carpet was not chosen by Amie but is Stark Jynx. Furniture is a mix of vintage and new. Nook 1 has a vintage console table, vintage upholstered benches and cockatoo lamps. Nook 2 has a vintage milo baughman chair in coral linen, a brass library lamp and swan table. Lighting is Flos - Globall.

Overall, I think it is a really fun and pretty space! Don't you agree?
